Robert F. "Bob" McKernan Jr.
DOTHAN,
GA -- Robert McKernan Jr., died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Southeast
Alabama Medical Center. He was 52
On 9-3-05, while giving
his heart to those in need from Hurricane Katrina, Bob McKernan was called home.
Bob was doing what he loved most: standing behind his grill cooking for the ones
he loved, "everyone." Bob lived a life of service, whether grilling, working on
projects for friends and family or spending time with all the children who came
into his home. He cherished any opportunity to teach children how to swim or
play any sport. He opened his arms to all ages. Bob's time with Charlene was
filled with love and dreams. They enjoyed their home, friends, family and
neighbors. They were best friends. Their relationship was an example for all
couples to live by. Very few people find their soul mates in life, but Bob and
Charlene did. They enjoyed doing everything together and their time meant
everything to them, from football to the beautiful tropical paradise they built
in their yard and around the pool. They had a special "home" that brought many
hours of fun, laughter and love. Chad and Bob had a special father and son
relationship for all father and sons to envy. Their time together provided the
learning and fun that every son deserves. Manhood can only be bestowed by our
fathers and Bob succeeded this with Chad. One of the most loved treasures on
earth is a "friend that is closer than a brother." Bob was blessed with that
friend in Jeff Mauldin. Their time in ‘the corner' is special and filled with
memories of projects, sports and plans of things to come. Bob will be missed by
all; may we all strive to be a servant as was Bob. Bob had a special niece, Peri,
who was more than a daughter to him. Besides Peri, there were friendships with
the grandchildren of friends, who were constantly in Bob's life â€" Alex and
Kortnie Mauldin and Audree and Meri Grace Miller. He lived for making children
happy and always had a knack for doing so. Bob was employed with Cummings Signs
for the past six years as a sales representative. Bob was predeceased by a very
special mother-in-law, Dean Chapman of Donalsonville, Ga., and his grandparents.
He had a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, served in the U.S. Navy, USS
Tigrone AGSS419, with eight years of submarine service and was a First Class
Quarter Master. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Sept. 6, at Byrd Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Den Irwin officiating. Flowers will be accepted or
donations may be made to the relief effort of Hurricane Katrina. Survivors

Perry passed from this life to a higher adventure. Out of my loving arms to
God's, out of my life to be in his dad's, the late Perry Alfred Gannon. There
are so many I wish to thank. As I look upon the lives that touched my son the
list is so long. There are some very special people I must say by name:
Wilamena, thank you for telling Perry God loves him making his heart seek the
angels at Faith Alive Church. Thank you for showing him the way, you helped him
find peace he couldn't find anywhere else.
Chesapeake School System, Deep Creek teachers and staff, you taught and worked
with my son helping him use that wonderful mind of his, enabling him to graduate
with honors and achieve his dream of entering O.D.U. To the students, you saw
past outward appearances and loved his heart.
Mr. Histon you never let him lay there and veg, you put your heart and soul into
keeping that brain going.
Dr. Sue Lee, you took my boy in your arms from day one and showed me that Perry
can dream, allowing him to realize he could be anything he desired.
To the staff at King's Daughters: When I had no strength left, you did. Don, you
always knew where to find his blood and not hurt him.
Dr. St. Clair, you made his dream come true, you helped him to reach the highest
he could, giving him the dignity he sought for so long.
Perry, you touched so many, your life gave me the strength to go on, you taught
