Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As you may already be aware, I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrigs disease, in May 2004. This motor neuron disease slowly robs you of your voluntary muscle control ultimately leaving patients paralyzed.

Since my diagnoses many things have changed, not only for me but for my young family. I was diagnosed only a year and a half into my marriage. At that time our son was 1 1/2 and our daughter 6 months old. My wife also had a daughter 5 years old. My beautiful wife has had to assume most of my day to day care as well as the resposibilities of our home and children.

Imagine being told that you had 2 to 5 years to live. I was devastated to say the least. But that quickly changed as I began to realize all the blessings I had. My wife and children needed me and I wasn't going to let them down.

I began to research the internet for all the information I could find regarding research, therapies, and possible cures. During my research I came across the ALS Association site and learned of a local support group. I learned there was someone out there who was providing research funding, support for patients and families, loaning expensive medical equipment to those who could not afford it, as well as many other important functions.

I have benefited in many ways from my affiliation with this tremendous organization. From the loaning of equipment to the procurement of this computerized speech device with which I am writing this letter. All at no cost to me.

I would like to ask you to help me this year by participating in the "Walk to D'feet ALS". You can do this in several ways,

1. Make a tax deductible contribution

2. Become a walker with our team (Marks Team Hope) and help us raise our goal by collecting donations.

Since my diagnoses more than 3 years ago, my condition has naturally changed. I am now only able to walk short distances with the aid of a walker. However, most of my locomotion is provided by a power wheelchair. I still have about 10% use of my arms. I have to be fed, bathed, and helped in and out of bed. I rely on my speech device for most of my communication. Even my children, Kameron (4) and Kylie (3) chip in and help me out. This disease has robbed me of my mobility but I refuse to let it rob me of my joy. God has given me so many blessings! Each day that passes Scientists get closer to a way to cure this disease.

Married 1978- only once - to Diane Short, met her at Tower Mall. have two sons-Dustin 24 and Dillon 15 -two Jack Russell dogs. I am in business with brother Dwayne "Worm" since 1991, little brother David is with us also. We live in Brentwood-20 yrs. Cubmaster Pack 215-Scoutmaster Troop 215-member of Tidewater Blacksmith Guild. My wife works with us at our shop on Victory Blvd when she is not scrap booking with her friends. She sells scrap booking stuff called Creative Memories. I am looking forward to our reunion!!

Alton ("Killer") G. Jones is married to Denise Riddick (75) with whom he has been together with since he was in 9th grade Alton has been retired from the U. S. Army since 2001. They have three daughters; Alneita and Latonya graduate of Syracuse University and Desiree an 11th grader at Great Bridge High School. Alton is currently the owner of New Concepts Construction and his wife Denise owns her own business as well.

I had a really great time at the reunion and was happy to see some of you that I hadn't seen since I left high school. You know who you are. :-) Thank you Cindy & Brian Frazier for a great time @ the reunion.
